Hon Hai Precision Industry (trading as Foxconn), has filed a patent application to use graphene together with carbon nanotubes in loudspeakers. More specifically, US patent application number 20120250908 covers the use of graphene composites in thermoacoustic devices, including applications to loudspeakers. Hon Hai is one of the world’s largest (according to Wikipedia, it is the largest) manufacturer of electronics components in the world, based in Taiwan. It is also among the top 10 graphene IP developers. The company already holds granted patents for graphene-based speakers in China. The US application was submitted together with researchers at Beijing Tsinghua University.
